November 7, 2014, Alexandria, Virginia – A new Conflict Minerals Reporting Template version 3.02 (CMRT 3.02) was published today by the Responsible Minerals Initiative. The leading multi-industry tool to facilitate transfer of information throughout the supply chain in support of conflict-free sourcing, CMRT 3.02 includes a number of updates from the current version 3.01, including an updated Standard Smelter List and numerous translation improvements. CFSI recommends that companies use CMRT 3.00 version and higher for the collection of 2014 supply chain data, as well as the 3.02 version of the Standard Smelter List, for filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2015 where required.
“The Conflict Minerals Reporting Template is a vital tool for companies around the world to gather information about the source of materials in their products, and the smelters and refiners that processed those materials. By gathering the same types of information from many levels of the supply chain in a standardized form, companies can make informed choices about conflict minerals in their supply chains,” said Michael Rohwer, Program Director of the Responsible Minerals Initiative.
A key update reflected in the 3.02 Standard Smelter List is the transition toward a consistent identification of smelters at the facility-level. A number of smelters had previously been identified at a “corporate” or “group” level whereby one entry may have represented multiple individual facilities. With 3.02, these higher level entities are being eliminated, and replaced with entries representing each unique facility. The new facility-level listing will help companies correctly identify the specific facilities that process minerals contained in their products. CFSI’s website contains a list of revisions from version 3.01 and a downloadable MS Excel® version of the Standard Smelter List.
The CMRT is free to use for all companies and is available for download on the Responsible Minerals Initiative website.
